A Shikara is a traditional wooden boat native to the picturesque lakes of Kashmir, especially Dal Lake and Nigeen Lake in Srinagar. Elegantly carved and ornately decorated, a Shikara features a pointed prow and a flat-bottomed hull, allowing it to glide effortlessly across calm waters. Typically measuring between 20 to 40 feet in length, it has a cushioned seating area beneath a canopy supported by arched wooden frames, often draped with colorful fabric. Shikaras are used for everything from leisurely rides to transporting goods and even floating markets. Painted in vibrant hues of red, yellow, and blue, each boat reflects the artistry and culture of the Kashmiri people.
